This is Us originally began as an 80-page movie script that Dan Fogelman was developing while working for ABC Studios in the spring of 2015. The story line, which Fogelman admitted to not having a definite direction, revolved around the lives of eight adults who, as it would be revealed, were octuplets. Despite positive reviews from both 20th Century Fox Television and sister company, Fox, there were concerns regarding the lack of views it would attract on the network, leading Fox to sell it to NBC. On September 27, 2016, NBC picked up the series for a full season of 18 episodes. In January 2017, NBC renewed the series for two additional seasons of 18 episodes each.
In May 2019, NBC renewed the series for three additional seasons. On May 12, 2021, it was announced that the series would conclude with the sixth season. The sixth and final season is scheduled to premiere on January 4, 2022 and full trailer is revealed. This Is Us is down to its final batch of episodes — or to put that in terms that fans can understand, the final few tissues in the box. The sixth and final season of the NBC series that revitalized the family drama will begin to dole out its last 18 episodes on Jan. 4 at 9 p.m.
The season 5 finale dropped a few shockers in two different time periods — Madison walked away from Kevin on their wedding day! Kate and Toby will get divorced and she'll marry Phillip ! Randall (Sterling K. Brown) will become a rising star in some fashion! — and these news flashes will get full stories in the coming months. A certain deathbed scene with the family's matriarch, Rebecca , in the distant future. Just ahead of the premiere of the final season of This Is Us tonight, star Chrissy Metz opened up about what we can expect from the final chapter in the story of the Pearson family.
Like the NBC hit drama series fans probably know, we have seen some emotional events throughout the show's run, and Season 6 won't be any different. The series follows three generations of the same family across separate timelines as they deal with life love, and loss. NBC's flagship drama series This Is Us returned tonight for its sixth and final season. This is not exactly a surprise; when the show was renewed for three more seasons in 2019, THR reported the drama would "likely" end its run afterward.
Because the series jumps around in time so much, it was unclear how long it could run. Eventually the characters would catch up to the futures the show laid out for them, and the story would have to end. "We never set out to make a television series that was going to last 18 seasons, so we have a very direct plan. We have a plan for what we're going to do, and I know what the plan is," series creator Dan Fogelman told THR in April 2019. In a Q&A with Deadline, This Is Us creator/executive producer Dan Fogelman speaks about the personal experience behind "The Challenger" and how the events in the premiere set up the final story arcs for Rebecca and the Big 3. In September 2016, NBC picked up the series for a full season of 18 episodes.
In May 2021, it was announced that the sixth season would be its last. The sixth and final season premiered on January 4, 2022. NBC has released the first trailer for the sixth and final season of "This Is Us," giving audiences a first look at the send-off to the network's critically acclaimed family drama series. When audiences last saw with Pearson family, Kevin and Randall finally addressed their long-standing tensions and disagreements in an emotional episode.
And, in terms of what's going on with Kevin, the upcoming batch of episodes will show him adjusting to raising twins with Madison even though the two are no longer together. This Is Us isn't over yet, but season 6 of the NBC drama will be its last. Ahead of the fifth season finale, the network made the official announcement about the final season. And of course, many fans expressed heartbreak over the end of the series.
So would the team consider coming back for This Is Us Season 7? It doesn't seem like creator Dan Fogelman has any plans to change his ending. This Is Us, NBC's top-rated family drama, will officially end after the upcoming sixth season, which will have 18 episodes, NBC announced Friday. The series will take an extended hiatus before kicking off its farewell run midseason for what the network hopes will be an uninterrupted season. In May 2019, NBC renewed the series through a sixth and final season. As of January 4, 2022, 89 episodes of This Is Us have aired.
"This Is Us" has been a smash hit for NBC since its first season premiered in 2016, with the show racking up impressive ratings and Emmy attention over the years. The series follows the family of the Pearsons across the multiple decades of their lives. Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley star in the series' main roles, with each of them returning for the final season. That would create yet another revenue stream after Disney-owned Hulu in 2017 acquired SVOD rights toThis Is Usin what sources at the time said was arecord-breaking per-episode fee.
Hulu and NBC shared co-exclusive rights to the series. Two or maybe even three of the specifics you asked are in the second episode. But a lot of the other stuff people are going to have to be patient for. The good news is, it's not going to take more than one season of television to get all the answers. My hope is that by the end of the series, there is no stone left unturned. But by the end of it, I don't think there will be any of these timeline mysteries left.
Hopefully it will set us up for a very beautiful and simple ending to the entire venture. Re-pandemic, "This Is Us" co-creator/executive producer Dan Fogelman, who lived in Bethel Park as a child, suggested the possibility of shooting scenes for the partially Pittsburgh-set family drama at a Steelers game in the show's final season. But it appears the NBC series, which begins its final season at 9 p.m. Tuesday on WPXI-TV, won't get to fulfill Fogelman's notion.
Due to the outbreak of COVID, fans had to wait much too long for the publication of season 5 episodes, but this new slot will run without interruption. There will be 16 episodes in the sixth and final seasons. This Is Us is coming to an end with the release of season six on NBC.
Is There Gonna Be A Season 6 Of This Is Us The long-running show has been an emotional journey as it has jumped back and forth through the life of the Pearson family. There have been many twists and turns along the way, but fans' questions will finally be answered when the sixth season comes to a close. Alright, fellow This Is Us fans, it's time we all broke out a pack of tissues. The show recently announced season 6 will be its final season, and after last night's major plot twist, our hearts are breaking. What's going to happen with our dearest Pearson family? NBC can't just expect us to walk away so quickly from our Big Three!!!
Trust and believe, the emotions are clearly off the charts. This is my favourite show of all times and I was so looking forward to watching the new Season to escape the current doom and gloom .... Well, the opening episode has NO new storyline or development whatsoever and instead it is all about reminding us of the Pandemic and BLM issues in the most forced and tedious way. These are irrelevant to the continuation of the previous plots, they feel completely forced into the storyline and all is very poorly acted.
Over the last 4 seasons none of the current affairs were written into the script because it is mostly time-independent with present day, flash-backs and flash-forwards all intertwined. To top it all off my favourite character, Randall, has now become selfish, arrogant and wallowing in self-pity. I really really do hope the writers correct this trajectory as I can't bear to say bye to the Big Three. In the past there has been some delay for those Down Under to watch the latest episodes of This is Us. While we haven't got a confirmed date for the sixth and final season's arrival on the platform, we're confident it'll find its home once again on Prime Video, where you can watch back all five of its prior seasons right now. It's a great period for us because as we talk about the nostalgia of the show and being in the final season, it's nice to go back to our kids at their youngest age, and so, that's a period we're leaning on heavily.
It was announced back in May 12, 2021 thatThis Is Usis ending with season 6. Though the news came as a disappointment to many fans, it's not a surprise. Going back to May 2019, when NBC renewedThis Is Us for three seasons, reports indicated that the Emmy-winning drama would not go beyond those three additional seasons – which series creator Dan Fogelman backed up in public remarks.
On the positive side, for viewers who aren't quite ready to say goodbye, Fogelman has also said that he's grateful to endThis Is Uson his own termswith season 6. And, regarding the ending, Fogelman pointed out that he's planned that out since the very beginning of the show. Given its non-linear storytelling, This Is Us is able to continue building on the Pearsons' history as they bring in characters from the main cast's past.
That includes Jack's estranged brother, Nicky, who reconnected with the family after decades of being isolated. There's also Randall's biological father, William, who passed away in season 1. But most importantly, it allows the show to continue featuring Jack who died back when the Big Three kids were in their teens.
However, as much as This Is Us has explored the past, it's also jumping way ahead into the future — particularly on Rebecca's death bed. Not much has been revealed about this specific timeline but the series has been teasing with glimpses of it in the last several seasons. Per a report from Decider, Season 6 of This Is Us will have 18 episodes total. The 18 episode count was also corroborated by Entertainment Weekly, who spoke to the This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman about what to expect from the final season. Here's what Dan had to say about the highly anticipated, yet dreaded This Is Us series finale.
Having first aired back in 2016, This Is Us is reaching its conclusion in the sixth and final season. Here's everything we know about the upcoming series so far, including new details on the highly anticipated last season finale. This Is Us is an American television series created by Dan Fogelman for NBC. It follows the lives and families of two parents and their three children born on the same day as their father's birthday.
The series stars an ensemble cast featuring Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan, and Ron Cephas Jones. Jon Huertas, Alexandra Breckenridge, Niles Fitch, Logan Shroyer, Hannah Zeile, Mackenzie Hancsicsak, Parker Bates, Eris Baker, Faithe Herman, Lonnie Chavis, Melanie Liburd, and Lyric Ross joined the principal cast in later seasons. This Is Us was a broadcast unicorn right out of the gate after the show's trailer debuted to a record-setting number of YouTube views following NBC's upfront presentation.
The series lived up to the hype and was a ratings and awards breakout at a time when broadcast originals have struggled to catch hold as viewers continue to cut the cord and focus on streaming originals. This Is Us will likely go out as one of broadcast's top-rated dramas among total viewers and the all-important adults demographic. I have script pages I have written and I'm writing that really are deep, deep, deep into the future. We have a plan for what we're going to do, and I know what the plan is," he told THR in April 2019. It was widely expected but officially confirmed earlier this year that season 6 will indeed serve as the last one for NBC's hit time-jumping family drama, which premiered in 2016.
It's one we've been planning for quite a while to start our sixth season. When people see it, they'll feel that it was baked into the fabric of the show a little bit. It's a pretty simple parenting story, which is where we often lived at our best and most simplest with Jack and Rebecca — just two parents navigating new experiences with young children. It's something that hopefully will be relatable, particularly to people who grew up in that era, or parents who were parenting back at that time. Thematically, they're going to start dealing with kids exploring heavy subject matter for the first time in their lives. The cliff-hanger in the last minutes of the final episode is lame beyond description.
I should have gone with my gut and quit after season 4. The first 3 seasons were solid, but from 4 onwards the quality of the writing just decreased. They traded believable characters and well thought out story lines for cringe worthy artificial drama. We've had to wait an excruciatingly long time for the sixth season, but the time is finally coming near.
NBC has announced that the final season will premiere January 4, 2022. So, Kate and Toby didn't make the long haul despite their promising beginning. Kate's flash-forward wedding to coworker Phillip revealed that her and Toby's relationship didn't survive, but we hope that doesn't mean the pair are on bad terms. In an even further future scene, Toby seems mopey when visiting the Pearson family cabin, presumably because he's spending time with a family he's no longer primarily connected to. Hopefully, Toby and Kate's shared love for their kids Jack and Hailey can prevail over any bad feelings between the former couple. How does this guy go from being such a favourite in earlier seasons, to being so selfish, annoying and arrogant?
Or was he this the whole time and the initial episodes were too superficial? His character is the most organic of the three; he is never shown as being quick-witted in flashbacks - even at college. He is portrayed as very studious, anxious and a people pleaser. While these traits remain in adult life, his wit is one of his biggest throughlines; when did this appear? We've seen the characters get older, yet he is never cracking jokes, puns or making people laugh. Rooting itself in our hearts for the last six years, Dan Fogelson's drama centering around the Pearson family is coming to an end with its sixth and final series.
Bidding farewell to 'The Big Three', we'll explain below how to watch This Is Us season 6 online where you are. NBCU Television and Streaming's chairman of entertainment content, Susan Rovner, added that the sixth and final season of "This Is Us" will consist of its usual 18 episodes, as the currently airing fifth season will be cut down to 16 due to the pandemic. On Friday, NBC announced that the sixth and final season of the hit drama will premiere on Jan. 4, 2022. Our second episode was very strategically an episode that is propulsively uplifting for Rebecca in the same time period, and I think that's the balancing act both of the show and of our lives.
As well as details about the finale, the cast has also revealed some exciting new details on the upcoming series. Speaking to Deadline, Fogelman teased that he has hopes of bringing back some familiar faces from the past in the final season, "especially at the end" and Brown confirmed that we'll "definitely" see Ron Cephas Jones' William again. This Is Us has captivated viewers with its tear-inducing storylines, in-depth explorations of family and some emotional plot twists. Well, it looks like we're about to get another dose of all of those things very soon. That's right, the final season is very nearly upon us. NBC has promised that the family drama's final season will have "a largely uninterrupted run" following season five's pandemic-induced delayed start, multiple hiatuses and shortened episode count.
The sixth and final season of "This Is Us" will premiere on Jan. 4, 2022. This Is Us is coming to the end of its current season this May, but the show will be back later in the year with Season 6. Fans have known the show would run this long since May 2019, when the show was renewed for three seasons by NBC. However, they did not know until recently that Season 6 will be the last ever set of episodes for the hit emotional drama. This Is Us started filming its final season on Thursday, and series creator Dan Fogelman is feeling wistful already. "Last first day. Feeling feelings," he tweeted, along with a camera-view photo of Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia embracing as Rebecca and Jack.
We're coming off an ending of the previous season that had a bunch of big moves for our characters. You saw that five years in the future, Kate is marrying somebody who's not Toby and who is a co-worker of hers. We've seen that Kate and Toby are going to be trying a version of a longer-distance marriage for a moment in time. We have seen Rebecca worrying about where her health is going next.
